Silicone Sponge Extrusions
The SFS Blackburn site specialises in manufacturing silicone sponge. SFS is able to offer silicone sponge extrusions in a variety of shapes, densities and colours. SFS silicone sponge has a closed-cell structure and smooth skinned surface. This highly versatile material offers all of the benefits of silicone rubber, but enables better sealing with lower compression forces due to the cellular structure.
Typical uses include:
- Oven and Kiln Door Seals (High Temperature Applications)
- Photocopier, Paper and Photographic Feed Rollers
- Automotive Sealing Applications
- Thermal Insulation (Hot and Cold Applications)
- External Light Fitting Gaskets
- Weather and Glazing Seals
- Locomotive and Carriage Seals
- Domestic Appliance Seals and Gaskets
- Environmental Test Chamber Seals
Silicone Sponge Grades
SFS can manufacture different grades of silicone sponge with different densities. Our standard densities are 16 lbs/ft3 (250g/m3), 24 lbs/ft3 (400g/m3), 33 lbs/ft3 (600g/m3). Our standard Grades of Silicone Sponge are:
- SP10, SP16, SP24, SP33
- AD10, AD16, AD24, AD33
- LEV250®, LEV400®
We also offer specialist sponge grades such as
- Fire-retardant
- Fluoro-silicone
- Metal-Loaded
Pre-formed silicone sponge tubes
SFS latest product is pre-formed silicone sponge tubes. These can be manufactured as 30,45,60,90,135,180 degree bends or more complex shapes. Ideal for using as insulation on pipework, the tubes can operate from -50 to 220 degrees C. Pre-forming the tubes allows the tubes to fit tightly to the item they are insulating, and avoids the need to fabricate a straight tube into shapes by cutting and joining.
Silicone Sponge Profiles
These are generally bespoke and made to customer specifications. SFS Silicone sponge profiles can be supplied in coil form, cut to length or joined into gaskets. Certain profiles can have self-adhesive backing (SAB) if required.
Silicone Sponge Cord
SFS manufactures cord from 2mm up to 80mm diameter. SFS holds large stocks of standard size cords and can supply as coils, cut to length or joined into rings.
Silicone Sponge Sections
SFS produces square and rectangular sponge sections from 2mm thick up to 50mm thick, and from 3mm wide up to 90mm wide. SFS holds large stocks of many popular sizes, and can supply in coil form, cut to length or joined into gaskets. Self-adhesive backing (SAB) is available.
Silicone Sponge Tube
SFS can make sponge tubing of varying size from 2mm ID. The minimum wall thickness is 3mm and maximum OD is 85mm. Tubes can be supplied in coil form or cut to length
Silicone Sponge D Sections
SFS has a large number of D section dies, that can be supplied with a hollow centre if necessary. These can be supplied in coils, cut to length, joined into gaskets. Self-adhesive backing (SAB) is available
Silicone Sponge P Sections
SFS can produce customer specific P sections, or customers can chose from a large number of existing dies. The P sections can be supplied with or without a central hole. Self adhesive backing (SAB) can be applied to either side of the flat section. P sections can be supplied in coils, cut to length of joined into gaskets.
Silicone Sponge U Sections
SFS has a large number of U section dies, and we can produce bespoke U sections to suit customer needs. The minimum wall thickness is 1.5mm. These can be supplied in different densities or colours. Self adhesive backing (SAB) can be applied to the base or inside of the channel
Silicone Sponge Rollers
Silicone sponge is an ideal material to make rollers for use in photocopier/printer cartridges. Typically the rollers have the surface skin ground off to leave a cellular structure. Other applications include laminating machines, and paper handling devices such as ATMs.
