Inflatable seals can be used for a variety of applications where it is difficult or critical to create a seal. This can be where a positive pressure differential is required such as a cockpit seal or where the two sealing surfaces move in relation to each other. The seals are inflated with air, which causes the sealing face to 'balloon out' and create the seal. A fabric insertion can be added to strengthen the seal, allowing it to operate at higher pressures. Seals with an integral fabric reinforcement need to be moulded, and therefore are more costly. SFS can manufacture inflatable seals in a variety of specialist silicone compounds such as fluoro-silicone and low smoke/low toxic.
Typical uses include:
- Aerospace & locomotive door seals
- Powder and bulk solid drum seals
- Food processing equipment
- Fluid Handling
- Medical Sterilizers
- Flood Barriers
- Pharmaceutical dryer/mixer seals
- Nuclear door seals
